AIR JORDAN 1 LUCKY GREEN
On April 20, 1986, the Chicago Bulls’ Michael Jordan scores 63 points in an NBA playoff game against the Boston Celtics, setting a post-season scoring record. Despite Jordan’s achievement, the Bulls lost to the Celtics in double overtime, 135-131. Boston swept the three-game series and went on to win the NBA championship.
I felt that it was important for women to be able to relate to an authentic MJ moment. This story was heavily inspired by finding beauty in your imperfections and not fearing perceived “failure”. The Celtics went on this series but this went down as one of the greatest games in NBA history and an iconic moment for Jordan. As Larry bird said “that was god, disguised as Michael Jordan.”
The details on this shoe were an incredible collaboration between the team and I. We removed one stitch around the leather overlays to display the raw leather underneath the green, this was done with the intention of showing a beautiful imperfection. Storytelling elements were adding by placing a graphic of the iconic Celtics court on the sockliner as well as adding red white and black accents to represent the bulls. Another little know detail we added was the leather tag, this was done in order to save leather waste.
